Let me start off by wishing everyone a Happy New Year. I hope that 2010 will bring each of you health, happiness and success however you may define each of those areas.
After a little over 2 months of no soccer, we are back on the field as of yesterday. While a lot has been going on behind the scenes and off the field, yesterday evening was the first time we have been on the field together as a team since our last league game on November 1st. It was great to be back to work although with the lay off and perhaps a little too much Christmas cheer, there was some rust evidant. The indoor season allows us to continue to work as a team on our individual skills and tactical direction while being able to put in practice what we work on with our competitive indoor league of 7 games. What made yesterday that much more exciting was getting to practice for the first time inside our very own, on campus soccer dome. There are still a few kinks to work out but overall it was really great to be inside this new and unique to the university enviroment facility. Being inside it and looking around, it was hard to believe that a few months ago we were training on the very same field....but outdoors. The team is pretty much the same although we have lost one 4 year player who is now graduated (and was a big part of the team), Joanna and have added 5 new players to the indoor roster...3 returning from the 2008 squad and 2 potential new players. They will train with the team and depending on the need might participate in some of the indoor games. As a group we hope to establish some momentum over the indoor season, gaining competitive experience and confidence while building a solid style of play that will serve us well next fall. We also want to establish a team identity that will carry us forward and will be filtered down to any new players who join us in the fall. We continue training next week and start our league play with a home game vs. Université de Laval next Sunday Jan. 17th. Details to follow. Recruting continues and there are some very positive signs but as I have always said, until I see those new players on our field come the start of training camp, I don't want to assume that they will attend Concordia.
