Well we are here. Sorry for not writing for a few days but between lack of good internet access and travelling, I didn't have much time or chance to write. Today I am not feeling inspired to write so I am asking one of our players to guest write....Kendra Flock of UVic will be writing today... I plan on asking different players to add their thought to this site at various times. As I write this post, coaches and athletes are getting on planes and / or heading to the airport for the first leg of their travels bringing them to Montreal. However the first day we were to get together started with some terrible news. One of our most experienced players Josée Belanger from l'Université de Sherbrooke suffered a knee injury just minutes before she was to be substituted out of her game yesterday and she is not available for the games. Josée had represented Canada various times with national youth teams including having participated at one youth World Cup and has been a consistent all-Canadian within the CIS including winning CIS rookie of the year in 2006. Her presence will be missed as we had planned a lot of our attack around her but the show must go on and we are working on a last minute replacement from our alternates. Not exactly the way we were hoping to get started but we will adjust and we will find solutions...that is what coaches do. More news to follow as I hope to post each day or at least e
Well we as coaches found out in mid-August about our selection to the staff for this summer's FISU games and we started working on a plan almost immediately. We had our players in place pretty much since January with the final selection being made in March and now we are just 3 days from getting together as a team and starting the adventure we have been working towards for all these months. It is easy to detect the anxiousness and nervousness among the coaches and players but one thing is for sure, we are all excited to come together for the first time as a group. Well back gain ... Some of you might have already heard but this past Monday, Concordia's department of recreation and athletics made an announcement concerning further facilties development. As for this upcoming November, Concordia University will have a dome covering one of its fields which will allow for on campus training during the winter months. Granted, this dome will be for school use and public rental as well as for the the Stinger teams but it still remains that we will have state of the art facility in which to train during the winter and should only enhance on already growing winter semester soccer program. We are now in a position to offer our soccer athletes, varsity training and competition throughout the school year and hopefull this done as well as the investement it represents will set us apart from other schools and give us an edge in the recruiting game. It is an exciting bit of news and simply another step in our ongoing facility development plan. I really look forward to being able to train in the dome and on campus this u Well two weeks from today, athletes and staff from across Canada will be converging on Montreal for the 1st stop of our trip to Europe and ultimately our participation at the 2009 Universiade Belgrade. The finishing touches on our plans are being pout together as we speak with only a few last minute details remaining. I can only really speak for myself but I think that the other members of the group enter these last two weeks with a mix of nervousness and anxiousness. I am looking forward to getting to see the team all together and focus on getting ready soccer wise instead of focusing on the logistics side of it. We are now into June and 3 weeks from today we will be getting on a plane to head over to Europe. We starting working on this project back at the end of August and we are now in the home stretch getting close to our departure for Europe. |
