Well the FISU games are no longer just something to look forward sometime down the road. While there has always been some work being done, the real work now starts. The official announcement for the players selected will be made once the CIS championships season comes to a close but the planning side of things is starting to take off. My role consists in large part of putting together the logistical side of things for the games. Planning the flights, booking accomodations as required, setting things up for our pre-games training camp (which may take place in France), etc. Lots of moving parts to deal with but our goal is to give the athletes an experience to remember. We want something beyond the soccer that you can look back upon for the rest of their lives and remember fondly. Well our indoor competitive season has now come to a close. Our 1/4 playoff took place last Satruday and we came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 loss against McGill. Well after a lengthy conferance call, numerous emails back and forth and a few 24th hour hectic phone calls, we have finally selected our final 20 players that well represent Canada at the FISU games in July. It wasn't easy with the quality players we had to choose from and there were a few really tough and heart wretching decisions but in the end we think we have put together a great group of players with whom to move forward. |
