Today;s guest blogger comes from TWU (that is Trinity Western in Langley BC), midfielder Natalie Boyd. I have asked her to share some thoughts about her experience here at the games, Ok Nati, take it away!
So here we are. Team Canada on Game Day versus China, the hosting country. Words really cannot explain the excitement bubbling throughout our team. I probably on average say at least 5 times a day, "Hey guys, we are in China right now!" Such an unbelieveable experience we have been blessed with to represent our country. Being in an athletes village, amoung the world's best and playing games in world class facilities, what more could we ask for! We as a country had the oppurtunitiy to be a part of the opening ceremonies yesterday and oh boy can I tell you that China knows how to put on a show. The amount of enthusiam and hospitality Shenzhen has as a city is truely inspiring. The sound of 40,000 people roaring in a state of the art arena was an experience I will never forget. I am rooming with a Canadian weightlifting athlete and her friend went to the Bejing Olympics in 2008 and she even said, China's ceremonies are evermore impressing as the years continue. I feel so priveledged to be able to put on a Team Canada jersey, but what is even more special to me is to wear the same jersey and be a teammate to some of the most incredible teammates who have had to come together in such a short amount of time. I will always remember the dedication, support and heart that our team emphasized and carry these memories with me to ultimately influence people who did get to expereince this and impact their lives with the lessons I learnt while in China. That is all as it is now nap time! Chow for now. Nat Boyd #5
